Product Prioritization
The Bayer MaterialScience Chemical Risk Characterization Prioritization Process is based on the International Council of Chemical Association's (ICCA) Global Product Stewardship Guidelines developed under the industry Global Product Strategy. Considerations for prioritizing chemicals include: Regulatory requirements; potential higher risk areas; public and business considerations. Prioritization includes provisions as new chemicals, applications, and uses are introduced to the chemical product line and/or when other new relevant information becomes available.
Considerations for prioritization of chemicals/chemical categories under our risk characterization process include:
Regulatory Requirements/Programs
Consideration is given to regulatory requirements and categories of chemicals of particular concern under international, national or regional regulatory programs.
Hazard and Exposure Considerations
Chemical/chemical categories will be prioritized for risk characterization based on an evaluation of the level of inherent hazard to human health and/or the environment and use/application scenarios.
Other Considerations
Chemical/chemical categories can also be prioritized based on voluntary industry programs (e.g. EPA High Production Volume Challenge Program).
Chemicals which may be the focus of broader or increasing societal concern could trigger a higher rating for risk characterization.
Business considerations could trigger a higher rating for risk characterization.
Chemical/Product Groupings
Grouping specific materials in chemical categories for prioritization and risk characterization will be based on professional judgment, including review of chemistry and toxicology data.
Risk Characterization Process
Once prioritized, chemicals will be evaluated through the Bayer MaterialScience risk characterization process and additional risk management activities will be implemented as necessary.
